Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye met with representatives of UN agencies led by the UN resident coordinator in Myanmar on Sunday in Yangon.
The Union Minister stressed efforts for resettling IDPs and closing IDP camps since 2016 and drawing a national strategy which will adopt action programs for the systematic closure of IDP camps. Region-wise work programs will be carried out after forming Union-, region-, and state-level committees.
Pilot projects will be implemented in Kachin and Rakhine states. He urged the UN agencies and international bodies to cooperate in implementation of the work programs. He also highlighted coordination with Tatmadaw and ethnic armed organizations for mine-clearance and raising public awareness about mines.
The UN resident coordinator and resident representatives expressed readiness to participate in adopting and implementing work programs of the strategy. They also made a suggestion that the authorities should listen to the voices of women and internally displaced children while drawing work programs.
