Cooperation and Investment: Efforts during 8th Eastern Economic Forum in Russia

A Myanmar delegation, led by Member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for Transport and Communication General Mya Tun Oo, arrived back Yangon on Friday after attending the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (8th EEF) in the Russian Federation from September 10th to 13th.

During the forum on September 11th, the Deputy Prime Minister engaged in discussions on the topics "New Logistics in the Far East: The 'White Swan' of the Russian Economy" and "Eurasian Agro-express: New Opportunities for Trade in the Asia-Pacific Region."

On the 12th, he participated in the discussion on the topic "Rail Logistics in a New Age: Realities, Challenges, and Opportunities." Similarly, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Kan Zaw, on September 11th, participated in discussions on the Russia-ASEAN Business Dialogue, SCO and EAEU Climate Agenda: Moving Towards Common Goals, and Greater Eurasia: Drivers for the Formation of an Alternative International Monetary and Financial System.

On the 10th, Union Minister Dr. Charlie Than discussed the topic of "Colonialism in the East and Its Impact on the Modern World." On the 11th, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, took part in the discussion on "Inbound Tourism: Challenges and Opportunities in a New Reality."

On the 11th, the Myanmar delegation met with Advisor to the Russian President and Chairman of the Managing Committee of Roscongress Foundation, Mr. Anton Kobyakov, and discussed the progress of cooperation projects between the two countries and future plans.

On the 12th, they met with the Russian Minister of Economic Development and discussed matters related to economic cooperation between the two countries. In a meeting with the First Deputy CEO of JSC Russian Railways, the discussion focused on cooperation in building railroads, implementing new rail projects, sending scholars for the rail sector, providing technical and financial assistance for rail projects, and investments in dry dockyards.

In the afternoon, they met with the Russian-ASEAN Business Council Chairman and discussed economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN, as well as Russia and Myanmar.

In the evening of September 12th, the delegation attended the Plenary Session of the 8th EEF, during which Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a speech, and the Laotian Vice President joined as a dialogue partner.

During the forum, the delegation also met with regional leaders of Russia, including the Governor of Irkutsk Oblast and the Governor of Primorsky Krai, and discussed cooperation in the tourism and economic sectors.

In separate meetings with technical companies and organizations, the Myanmar delegation met with officials from Aquarius Technologies and Far Eastern Federal University, discussing potential areas for cooperation.

The delegation also conducted a study tour of the Commercial Port of Vladivostok. During the trip to Russia, Memorandums of Understanding were signed to open a bank account for a smooth transaction process for investment between the two countries and to promote cooperation in the tourism industry.
