Cooperation in Academic sector: 4th Myanmar-Korea Conference held

With the cooperation of Jeonbuk National University of the Republic of Korea and Department of Botany in Dagon University of Myanmar, the 4th Myanmar-Korea Conference on Plant Tissue Culture and Genetics (Useful Plants and Life Science) was held at convocation hall of Dagon University on 3rd of July.

It is learnt that 97 authors from 31 universities in Myanmar will read papers at that conference. Dagon University and Jeonbuk National University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2017 and held conferences successively. The first, second, and third conferences were held in 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively, and the fourth conference was held in 2023.

Professor, Department of Botany, Dr. Tin Moe Aye, said " The authors of research publications from the whole country come to Dagon University in person to read the papers and sometimes paper reading sessions were held via online. In the paper reading, there are 2 sections entitled Plant Tissue Culture and Genetics, and the authors from the chemistry department came to read the papers related to “Useful Plants”.

M.Sc (2nd year) student, Department of Botany, Swan Yee Htet, said " With the support of teachers and classmates, the title of the paper I chose is microbiology and it is about extract of antifungal compound from ginger and testing antimicrobial activity."

M.Sc (2nd year) student, Department of Botany, Nadi shwe yee oo, said " We will test the orchid with various vitamin supplementations and study the effect and how to conserve the endangered orchid through the technique of tissue culture."

Through this kind of event, both teachers and students can share theirknowledge and experiences.From the exchange programs, students from Korea come to study at the Dagon University and also, Myanmar students and teachers can make study tour toJeonbuk National University. The conference was held for 2 days on 2nd and 3rdJuly.
