Congratulatory Party: Japanese Embassy Celebrates Emperor’s Birthday

The Embassy of Japan in Yangon hosted a congratulatory party for the Japanese Emperor Naruhito’s upcoming 60th birthday at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence on Friday evening.

The current Emperor Naruhito was born on February 23rd, 1960 and he is the 126th monarch according to Japan’s traditional order of succession. After the announcement of the government that Naruhito’s father, Emperor Akihito would abdicate on 30th April 2019, Naruhito became Emperor on 1st May 2019 and his enthronement ceremony took place on 22nd October 2019.

Stressing the friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1954, the Japanese Ambassador said cooperation will accelerate in all sectors.

Ambassador, Embassy of Japan, H.E. Ichiro Maruyama: "We hold the Emperor’s birthday celebration every year – this is the first birthday celebration for the current Emperor. Myanmar and Japan have good relations and bilateral cooperation - we believe that we can strengthen the relations and will support Myanmar to continue its development processes."

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu, Yangon region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and many other officials as well as diplomats, UN representatives, politicians and invited guests.
