Commission chief and European Council President meet with farming union representatives

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President, Antonio Costa, met with farming union representatives concerning the Mercosur deal in Brussels.

The EU is seeking to diversify its trade links in the face of US President Donald Trump's tariffs and fierce Chinese competition. France and Italy are pushing to postpone the signing due to the opposition from the politically sensitive agricultural sector. Likewise, Ursula is set to visit Brazil on Saturday to sign the so-called Mercosur deal.
