






The 155th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at India Center in Yangon on Wednesday.
Co-organized by the U Nay Oke Foundation, the event highlighted the Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings of non-violence, truth and justice, continue to inspire generations and enlighten people across the world to this day. This special occasion featured remarks by dignitaries and experts, as well as cultural performances that underscore Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message.
India Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur made a remark highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings and emphasizing the deep friendship between Myanmar and India.
H.E. Abhay Thakur, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar said “Today, we are marking the 155th Birth Anniversary of the father of donation, Mahatma Gandhi. His sayings, his teachings, his thoughts, his life and struggles are as relevant today. He was a guiding light not only in India but also neighboring countries and there were a lot of interaction between Mahatma Gandhi and neighboring countries including Myanmar. In India on this day, there are mourning prayers at the Mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi. There are also a number of discussions and meetings at the various Gandhi memorial sites across India.”
The Ambassador also shared the future cooperation with Myanmar in energy sector, investment in fuel sector, political exchanges and spiritual connectivity.
H.E. Abhay Thakur, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar said “There are so many avenues are available for India-Myanmar cooperation across the border. There are also large more potential in costal shipping which is under-utilized at the moment and there are a lot of things to do together in terms of cultural, religious linkages and celebrating Lord Buddha universal teachings.”
During the event, Myanmar translations of Mahatma Gandhi’s books were presented to the Trustee of Shwedagon Pagoda and the representative of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University.
