Commemoration Ceremony: Myanmar observed the International Day of Older Persons

A commemoration ceremony for the International Day of Older Persons took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khaing gave an opening speech, saying that being a focal ministry, day care centers for the older persons have been opened and social pension has also been provided.

The Union Minister added that hailing the International Day of Older Persons, 1 million kyats each will be provided to the oldest grandpa and granny in the country through the respective region and state government.

During the ceremony, medicines and cash assistance were provided to the elder persons. The commemoration ceremonies for the International Day of Older Persons have been held annually since 1999, and this year’s theme is “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women”.
