Combating Online Scams: Repatriation of foreigners involved in online scams

Myanmar government is investigating to those who committ telecom fraud and onling gambling activities to repatriate to their own countries in accordance with the current laws and procedures.

In the investigation process, 20 Chinese nationals who illegally entered Myawady Township in Kayin State via neighboring countries were detained. With the cooperative efforts of related departments, personal informations and records of those individuals are being collected under the supervision of District Administrator and Chairman of Myawady District Management and Administration Committee on Thursday.

From January 30th to March 6th, total of 14,385 illegal foreign nationals were detained and 13,262 illegal foreign nationals were repatriated to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with law and procedures. The remaining 1,123 illegal foreign nationals are in good condition and among them, 154 nationals are under the control of Township Police Office to take legal action.

The government is actively cooperating with neighboring countries international organizations to identify and arrest those involved in online scam center operations, along with the efforts to deport foreigners who are in distress for various reasons and who have been trafficked to their respective countries.
