








Organized by the Kachin State Government, a collective novitiation and ordination ceremony is held annually during the Maha Thingyan festival period.
This year, the third such event took place at the Ahtawshin Buddhist Mission Central Monastery in Myitkyina in the morning on April 10. Kachin State Chief Minister, U Khet Htein Nan, members of the state government, senior departmental officials, and donors attended the ceremony and offered the dry provisions, cash donations and offertories to the members of Sangha, newly ordained Buddhist monks, novices and nuns.
Next, a merit sharing ceremony was continued beginning with the observance of Five Precepts and taking Paritta Suttas recited by the members of Sangha.
Continuing the ceremony, the Chief Minister and wife, along with officials, offered the cash donation and offertories to the members of Sangha. The Chief Minister and wife also donated 10 million kyats each to three monasteries in Myitkyina, totaling 30 million kyats. Meanwhile, officials donated 5 million kyats each to 13 monasteries in Myitkyina Township and 3 in Waingmaw Township, totaling 80 million kyats. In addition, the Sangha organization in Kachin State collectively donated 20 million kyats to the state government to support people affected by recent earthquakes.
The donation was presented on behalf of the Sangha by the State Minister of Social Welfare, and received by the Chief Minister, who supplicated religious matters and then the merits gained were shared by pouring water. Later, at the Kachin State Disaster Management Office in the Khakaborazi Hall, donors made further donations for earthquake victims, which were received with appreciation by the Chief Minister, who expressed his gratitude.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister, along with the State ministers and departmental officials, visited fish farming businesses in the Tatkone Ward to offer support. They also coordinated with relevant officials to address the concerns raised by business owners and provided 15 bags of fish feed as support.
After that, the Chief Minister and officials inspected land areas under the State Government’s plan in Mawphoung မော်ဖောင်း village tract in Myitkyina Township, which include the sites of a sports and physical education school and a computer university. They observed ongoing land clearing for the village expansion, road construction, and planning layout, coordinating with relevant departments for systematic implementation.
