The head of the Leading Committee for the Protection of Farmers Rights and Promotion of Interest Vice President U Henry Van Thio addressed the opening of Myanmar Coffee Forum 2019 on Wednesday in Mandalay.
The Vice President stressed that the forum was to accelerate the development of coffee sector in Myanmar, and to form Coffee Board, capture market and fetch reasonable price, and also to get loan and investment for coffee growers – he called for cooperation.
He urged the attendees to focus on Robusta coffee plantation, highlighting that Arabica coffee produced in Myanmar was recognized as the World Class Coffee, fetching reasonable price. The Vice President also called for discussions on assistance to be provided by the Government, challenges, coffee market condition and Coffee Value Added production.
Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Hla Kyaw reported on works and plans to develop the coffee sector.
In this opening ceremony, the Vice President also presented awards to winners in Natural Category of Coffee Cupping Competition; the Mandalay Region Chief Minister to winners in Washed Category; and the Deputy Minister to winners in Other Category. This is the 2nd Coffee Forum and the 1st one was held in 2017 May in Nay Pyi Taw.
