







The 4th meeting of State-Level Central Committee on Administration and Management of Coastal Resources was held at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday and it was attended by Chairman of the Central Committee SAC member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transports and Communication General Mya Tun Oo.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said that Myanmar's coastline is more than 2,800 kilometers long, with the possibilities to carry out in-shore fishing activities and aquaculture activities, having good potential for long-term extraction of offshore oil and natural gas, and generating renewable energy.
Also it is a center of global trade routes and possibility of developing the international class ports, along with natural beaches and islands that can promote the tourism sector. The country can be developed by identifying and using many opportunities to conserve the traditional cultural heritage of the coastal ethnic groups and local people, he added. He urged all to systematically draw up and effectively implement the disaster prevention measures in regions and states of coastal areas, and to carry out the preventive measure for the beneficial of the long term.
The Union Minister said that the United Nations is implementing the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, while observing the concepts of Blue Economy in all countries including the ASEAN countries. He stressed that the ASEAN Leader’s Declaration on Blue Economy was released in 2021 and is being develop the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework.
He also urged attendees to discuss matters for both economic opportunities, and policy that can balance the conservation and proper exploitation of coastal area and marine ecosystems for long term sustainable development in the blue economy sector.
This was followed by display of awareness video clip on coastal area conservation. After that, the secretary and members of central committee, relevant officials reported on their working activities and future plans and the Chairman of the Committee gave necessary instructions.
