Cleanliness activities: Cleanliness activities at the Shwedagon Pagoda after strong wind

Due to the strong wind of MOCHA cyclone, the trees and branches were fallen and destroyed in the Shwedagon Pagoda compound. To clear those fallen trees, branches and debris, with the collaboration of the members of Myanmar Fire services Department and volunteer groups conducted the cleanliness activities at the Pagoda on 15th of May.

Assistant Director, Yangon Region, West District Fire Services Department, Shine Wai Moe, said " I came here with volunteer groups to clear the branches and debris due to strong wind. We intended to clean the compound of pagoda when the pilgrims and visitors come here to pay homage. In addition to that, we also clean up the fallen trees in nearby townships. And then, we already have enough people and rescue and search equipment. So, we are ready to help the MOCHA hit regions and states. In case of an emergency, we arranged ready to go within 30 minutes."

Member, Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustee, HlaMyint, said " This lake is called Shin Upagutta Mingalarkandawgyi of the Singuttara Hill. With the 100 volunteers, lake excavation and removing slit were carried out. We can raise our luck by lake excavation, one of the beliefs of Myanmar people. I really thank to the volunteers and members of Myanmar Fire Services Department for conducting suck kinds of services."

The cleanliness activities at the Shwedagon Pagoda was carried out with 100 volunteers, 50 from Myanmar Fire Services Department and 50 from the volunteer groups.
