





The Union Minister for Industry, Dr. Charlie Than, met with the Nepalese Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Harishchandra Ghimire, at the meeting hall of the Ministry in nay pyitaw on 18th March.
During the meeting, they openly exchanged views and discussed matters related to the “Nepal-Myanmar Partnership in Digital Transformation Program” to be held in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, Nepal’s ability to efficiently and systematically implement digital systems in both government and private sectors, the conditions under which Nepal wishes to support Myanmar in successfully achieving digital transformation, the Ministry of Industry’s capacity to effectively disseminate necessary digital knowledge to MSMEs in relation to digital transformation, and the prospects of actively collaborating with Nepal in the digital transformation sector.
Subsequently, a discussion and clarification session on the Industrial Zone Law and By-Laws was held at the Hlaing Tharyar (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7) Industrial Zone in Yangon Region.
Dr. Charlie Than, Union Minister for Industry and Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee for Industrial Development and Industrial Zone Progress, participated virtually from the meeting hall of the Ministry, Office No. (30).
In his opening speech, the Union Minister stated that, to date, Myanmar has established 28 industrial zones and 5 industrial estates, with 2 industrial zone projects currently underway. Within these industrial zones, estates, and projects, there are 8,009 small, medium, and large industrial enterprises, providing job opportunities to nearly 550,000 workers.
He noted that numerous businesses are also operating outside these industrial zones, necessitating the construction of additional industrial zones. He emphasized that the Industrial Zone Law was enacted on May 26, 2020, with the aim of establishing new industrial zones and ensuring the systematic development of existing Domestic Industrial Zones (D-I-Z) to support manufacturing industries.
He urged the Central Committee for Industrial Development and Industrial Zone Progress, regional committees, and industrial zone management committees to work collaboratively to further enhance the development of industrial zones, stating that only through such cooperation would the industrial zones progress further.
Following this, the Yangon Region Government Minister for Economic Affairs delivered a speech, the Director-General of the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection provided clarifications on the Industrial Zone Law and its by-laws, and the Vice-Chairman of the Hlaing Tharyar (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7) Industrial Zone Management Committee, along with industrialists attending the discussion, engaged in general discussions and the meeting was concluded.
