Chubu Centrair International Airport is hit by holiday exodus. Overseas-bound travelers are crowding an international airport in the central Japanese prefecture of Aichi, ahead of the year-end and New Year holidays.

Airport officials said on Friday more than 8,200 people had booked departures from the Chubu Centrair International Airport. Outbound travel is expected to peak on Saturday, with nearly 9,000 bookings. The operator says more than 144,500 travelers have booked international flights to and from the airport from Friday through January 5. That’s about 1.3 times the number a year ago.
