Chinlone Competition: Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation Chairman’s Cup Concludes

Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation Chairman’s Cup (rainy season tournament) successfully concluded in Yangon on Sunday with the participation of 38 teams from across the country. 

Chinlone, one of Myanmar Traditional Sports has played a prominent role in the country for about 1,500 years. The tournament at Aung San Stadium was to popularize Chinlone sport not only in Asia but also across the world as well as to encourage enthusiasts and young generation players.

Vice Chairman, Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation, Hla Htay said “Our federation was founded by the Ministry of Health and Sports to promote Chinlone sport. To turn out more young generation players, we have plans from schools to universities in the upcoming December under the guidelines of Ministries of Education and Health and Sports. We also have plans to conduct training course for judges in cooperation with Sports and Physical Education Department.”

A total of 38 teams competed in groups of 4 players (men and women), 6 players and 10 players for men at this tournament. 4 Silver Chinlone Trophies and cash prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winning teams in the 4 categories at the tournament.

Player, One Two Two One Team, Aye Aye Thant said “We are from Mandalay – we grabbed the first prize at the 4-player category. I think we won the prize due to team work and hard work. We always join this kind of competition and have won prizes. We will try better and join every competition till we can still play Chinlone.”

Player, Mhan Star Team, Nay Thu Aung said “Our team is comprised of 20 members from Mandalay. We always join this kind of competition and won prizes in the previous competitions. Now, we won the first prize at the 6-player category. We are very happy - we will participate in Chinlone competitions in the future.”

Player, Htay YaDaNar Team, Aye Min Htun said “We got the first prize at the-10 player category. We trained for 1 month for this competition. I also got the best player award. I am very proud of myself and my team. We decided to join the 10-player category at every tournament.”

Myanmar introduced Chinlone sport at the 27th SEA Games in Nay Pyi Taw in 2013.
