Spanish King Felipe VI welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Zarzuela royal palace on Tuesday. Xi Jinping and his officials, who are on a two-day official visit to Madrid, are expected to meet prominent companies to promote trade and tourism between the two countries. Spain has a chronic trade deficit with China, according to Spain's Institute of Foreign Trade. But in 2017 exports jumped 28 percent to around 6.25 billion euros. A Spanish government source said China and Spain will sign an accord on the export of Iberian ham to China on Wednesday in a deal that will include coveted on-the-bone legs of pork. King Felipe and Queen Letizia will also host the Chinese president and his wife for dinner.
