China's Xi swears in new Macau leader

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday presided over the inauguration of new Macau leader Sam Hou-fai, capping off a three-day visit as the former Portuguese colony marks 25 years since being returned to China.

He called on young people in Macao to assume the role of builders and successors of the cause of "one country, two systems".

He said young people are the hope and future of Macao and an energetic force in building Macao and the country, expressing the hope that they will set lofty goals and make solid efforts with Macao and the country in mind.

After the handover, Macau grew into the world's casino capital by gaming revenue and a popular destination for Chinese tourists.
