

Global and Chinese automakers are unveiling over a dozen new electric SUVs, sedans and muscle cars this week at the Shanghai auto show, their first full-scale sales event in four years. On Tuesday, Chinese electric car maker BYD unveiled two new models and also announced an upcoming "everyday car."
BYD is one of the biggest electric vehicle makers in the world, having sold nearly 1.9 million cars in 2022 including pure electrics, plug-ins and hybrids. The General Manager of BYD Haiyang, a brand under BYD, announced strong electric car sales this year, with a "cumulative wholesale volume" of electric vehicles in China reaching over 1.5 million.Drivers in the world's biggest auto market bought 5.4 million pure-electric vehicles last year, or about two-thirds of the global total of 8 million, plus 1.5 million gasoline-electric hybrids.
