China Urges Western Countries to Lift Illegal sanctions

A Chinese diplomat attending the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Friday urged the United States and other relevant Western countries to immediately lift illegal unilateral sanctions against China.

Li Xiaomei, deputy head of the Chinese delegation, made the statement during a dialogue with Alena Douhan, United Nations Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of the unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights.

Li added that China appreciated Douhan’s report presented to the UN Human Rights Council based on the visit.At the invitation of the Chinese side, Douhan visited China in May, where she had adequate exchanges with relevant sides, and achieved fruitful results.

The report says that the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and relevant other countries breached international law, caused negative effects to human rights in China, and led to negative spillovers.
