Chinese Premier Li Qiang cautioned against a return to a “Cold War mentality” and called for the promotion of multilateralism and free trade at the United Nations on Friday.

He highlighted unilateral and protectionist measures, including tariff hikes and trade barriers, as major factors contributing to the current global economic slowdown. Li said the international rules and order established over the past 80 years face serious challenges and that the global system is being disrupted.

He urged countries to collaborate more closely, identify shared interests, and promote inclusive economic globalization. Li also expressed China’s commitment to working with the international community to uphold UN principles and advance global initiatives. He emphasized building a community with a shared future for humanity to create a more harmonious world.
