China surpasses Japan to be world's top auto exporter

China has overtaken Japan as the world's largest exporter of automobiles for the first time. A total vehicle exports in the first half of 2023 experienced a remarkable 76.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on Thursday.

Japan exported 950,000 vehicles during the same quarter, up 6% on the year, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association. This development signifies that China surpassed Japan in semi-annual vehicle export volume for the first time.
