China reports 78 new coronavirus cases, including 74 imported infections

China on Monday reported a total of 78 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), with 74 cases imported from overseas, the National Health Commission said on Tuesday. The overall number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 81,171 by the end of Monday. Also on Monday, seven deaths and 35 new suspected cases were reported on the mainland, the commission said.

The commission said that 132 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus, and that 12,077 close contacts were still under medical observation. One new confirmed case was reported in Wuhan on Monday. By the end of Monday, 356 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in Hong Kong, 25 confirmed cases in Macao and 195 in Taiwan, including two deaths. A total of 101 patients in Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 29 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospital upon recovery.
