


The opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Forum on Health Cooperation took place on Thursday via hybrid method under the theme ‘Towards A Health Silk Road’. High ranking officials from China and ASEAN and the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific opened the forum with key note speeches.
In his key note speech, Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win stressed that not only in the region, but also in the world, the cooperation of the countries to strengthen the health infrastructure will get stronger response to the public health threats.
Myanmar is making efforts to prevent, control and treat the COVID-19 epidemic, and has received a lot of medical aid from the neighboring country, China, including COVID-19 vaccines. If the Health Silk Road can be implemented through the cooperation of China and ASEAN member countries, health knowledge, information, timely sharing of experiences, strengthening the public health system and scientific and technical cooperation can be carried out. Among the many cooperation opportunities between China and Myanmar, one important opportunity is the construction of the Myanmar Center for Disease Prevention and Control, which is currently under construction.
China and ASEAN countries have the same goals and have undertaken efforts with good results. The Union Minister also expressed his confidence that in the future, more ambitious programs and deeper relationships will be built.
The Fourth China-ASEAN Forum on Health Cooperation approved and released the Joint Declaration. The Forum is set to take place till the 16th of September, focusing on prevention and control of infectious diseases, maternal and child health, hospital management and dental health.
