China’s deep-sea exploration efforts have reached a new milestone, with the Institute of the Deep-Sea Science and Engineering under the Chinese Academy of Sciences reporting that China’s Human Occupied Vehicles (HOVs) have completed 248 dives so far this year.

China’s two full-ocean-depth HOVs, Shenhai Yongshi (Deep Sea Warrior) and Fendouzhe (Striver), have completed 132 and 116 dives respectively, conducting research in biology, geology, environment, and more. Additionally, the HOVs have played a crucial role in promoting the wider application of deep-sea technologies in underwater archaeology, enabling excavations in extreme conditions.
