Chile signs agreement allowing Rio Tinto to mine lithium in salt flats

Chilean President Gabriel Boric has signed the first Special Lithium Operation Contract for the exploitation of the Altoandinos salt flats in the north of the country, which will be developed together with the Anglo-Australian mining company Rio Tinto. The head of state said "it is estimated that the Salares Altoandinos project will generate more than US$15 billion for the country".
