Chile rejects mining project near natural reserve

A committee of six Chilean government ministers rejected the construction of a mining and port project a few kilometers from a national reserve where there is endangered flora and fauna.

President Gabriel Boric had promised to reject the project before coming to power and reiterated it in his first speech as president in March. While the ministers were deciding the future of the initiative, called Dominga, at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Environment in Santiago, groups demonstrated in support and against the mining project.
