Five Chilean presidential candidates were forced to go into quarantine after being in close contact with another of the candidates who tested positive for COVID-19, just 16 days before national elections. Four of the five candidates participated virtually in a televised debate on Thursday from their homes.
The event was attended by Sebastián Sichel from the ruling party, Yasna Provoste from the centre-left, José Antonio Kast from the extreme right and Marco Henríquez Ominami from the Independent Regionalist Party.
In the last one, on Tuesday, they weren't sufficiently distant from each other, and all four were in close contact with Gabriel Boric, the presidential candidate, who had tested positive for a PCR the day before. All candidates have suspended campaign
activities. Boric will be quarantined for 10 days while the others are confined for seven days.
