On June 4, Google and the Chilean government signed an agreement to deploy the Humboldt Cable, a groundbreaking  9,200-mile submarine fiber optic cable connecting Valparaíso, Chile, to Sydney, Australia, via French Polynesia.

This project, slated for completion by 2027, will be the first undersea cable to directly link South America with the Asia-Pacific region. The deployment of the Humboldt Cable comes amid increasing global competition over digital infrastructure.

Undersea cables are pivotal in global data transmission, and their control has become a strategic asset in international relations. The Humboldt Cable is poised to significantly enhance digital connectivity between South America and the Asia-Pacific region, fostering economic growth and technological advancement.
