Children in Kanagawa take photos with Japan's official Santa Claus

Japan’s officially recognised Santa Claus, known as “Santa Paradise Yamamoto,” met local children in Kanagawa prefecture, south of Tokyo, to hear their Christmas wishes two weeks before Christmas. Yamamoto has been certified by the Greenland International Santa Claus Association since 1998, making him the first and only official Santa from Asia.

He has continued the role for more than two decades, visiting communities to spread joy and festive spirit. Parents said the visit helped their children begin to recognise Santa and enjoy the festive experience. The event has become a cherished seasonal tradition in the coastal prefecture.
