Chestnut season arrives at agricultural park in western Japan. Visitors are flocking to an agricultural park in western Japan to gather chestnuts as the autumn harvesting season gets underway. About 18,000 chestnut trees spanning 10 varieties are planted across a 55-hectare site of Makino Pic-land in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture.

Visitors were seen carefully prying open the spiky burrs to retrieve the chestnuts inside. Officials at the agricultural park said this year’s yield is expected to be higher than usual because their orchards were unaffected by natural disasters. The gathering season at the park runs until mid-October.
