In Lackan village, located in eastern Turkiye’s Mus province, families continue the traditional craft of charcoal production, enduring intense heat and demanding labour.
The process begins with carefully stacked oak wood, which is slowly carbonized over nearly 20 days through a controlled burn, transforming it into charcoal suitable for grilling. Production typically runs for about six months each year, yielding approximately 600 tons of charcoal. For the villagers, the work provides both a source of income and a way to preserve a skill passed down through generations, maintaining a centuries-old local tradition.
