Championship 2018: World Billiard And Snooker Championship 2018

The Black Shield International Billiard and Snooker Federation’s World Billiard and Snooker Championship 2018 begun on Monday.

The Championship at Grand Mercure Yangon Golden Empire Hotel aims to elevate the good reputation of the nation, to uplift the standards of Myanmar Billiard and Snooker and to turn out the talented young generation of players. And, most importantly, it’s to show the world that Myanmar has successfully hosted such an international event.  

President, Myanmar Billiards & Snooker Federation, Dr. Min Naing said “Totally 37 players, including 9 players from Myanmar, are participating in this Championship. There are 5 sessions a day. The 1st session starts at 10 am, 2nd session at 12:30 pm, 3rd session at 3 pm, 4th session at 5:30 pm and the 5th session at 7:30 pm. Every Myanmar player has to participate at least in 2 matches. We will keep trying to host the Championship successfully.”   

The Billiard event is from the 12th to 18th of November and the Snooker Master match is from the 19th to the 27th of November. Players said they prepared their best.

Billiard Player, Zaw Than Htike said “I'll participate in Billiard and Snooker Master matches – the Snooker match is for those aged over 40. I play billiard all the time. I trained for two months and a half for this championship and I will try my best. I have plans to share my experience of playing billiard and advantages with the younger generations after this championship.”

Billiard Player (Australia), Steve Mifsud said "I've been playing Billiard most of my life as started when I was 10 years of age and representing Australia in many World Championship like this. It took me a long long time to become at the point of being able to represent Australia. I started my layer as a snooker player and then over the years of become more interested in Billiards.” “This is quite unique that some of the world's best players are here playing in this championship”.

Cash prize of 10 million kyats and a 30 million kyats worth motor vehicle will be presented to the winner.
