Central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica prepared ahead of conclave

With 48 hours remaining before the start of the papal conclave, final preparations are underway at St Peter’s Basilica. The Loggia of Blessings, the central balcony overlooking St Peter’s Square, has been draped in traditional red fabric. 

This is the spot from which the newly elected pope will appear for the first time to deliver his Urbi et Orbi blessing. Cardinals from around the world are arriving in Rome to participate in the secretive voting process inside the Sistine Chapel. 

The conclave follows strict procedures rooted in centuries of tradition and spiritual discernment. As anticipation builds, the world watches, awaiting the emergence of a new leader for the Roman Catholic Church.
