Centennial Celebration : No.1 Basic Education High School turns 100 years

Centennial celebration of No.1 Basic Education High School was celebrated for two days. The school stands as the longest  facility in the educational history of Kachin State and Myitkyina as well.

On 30th March, Chief Minister U Khet Htain Nan participated in the event. Being a former student of the school, the Chief Minister expressed the gratitude of the principals, teachers, parents and welfare committee as well as the successive governments for their efforts to maintain the status of the school lasting for 100-years, standing proudly with good image.

He added that the school had nurtured the outstanding leaders in various fields including political, economic, social and agriculture sectors during 100 years period. He called for cooperation of all concerned persons for further improvement of the school.

As part of the celebration, documentary photos of successive principals, outstanding students, and scouts, historical badges and activities of the school welfare committees were on display at the the school museum. The attendees also joined the Manaw dance performance joyously.

Moreover, a new library was donated by the collective donations of former students. The No-1 Basic Education High School is the oldest school of the education history in Kachin State and Myitkyina as a whole. it was originally established as English-Myanmar Government Middle school in 1923.

In 1945, the school was reopened as Government High School after suspending during the World War-II. The 100th anniversary celebration was held for two days from 29th to 30th of March.
