




Magwe Region has secured the Championship Trophies for Women's Weightlifting Events and Team Competitions at the 2023 Region and State Weightlifting Tournament.
On the 17th of September, a ceremony to honor the victorious weightlifters was held in front of the Phan KharMyay Golf Club in Magwe, with Chief Minister U Tint Lwin in attendance.
A total of 31 weightlifters from Magwe Region participated in the events, securing 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals, in addition to the Championship Trophy for the women's team and team-wise achievements.
Gold Medal Winner, 55-kilo Weightlifting Event, Htet Arkar Phyo, said " I have been competing in weightlifting since 2019. I previously won a bronze medal in the 2022 event, and this year, I secured the gold medal in the 55-kilo event, setting a new record."
Cash prizes were presented with 100,000 kyats for gold medals, 70,000 kyats for silver medals, and 50,000 kyats for bronze medals. Similarly, 100,000 kyats were awarded for each best athlete award, along with man and woman championship trophies.
Director, Sports and Physical Education Department (Magwe Region), Than Aung, said " Our team underwent six months of rigorous training ahead of the tournament. This marks our achievement for three consecutive years. The necessary training equipment and facilities were provided by the Head Office and the Regional Government."
With the aim of elevating the standard of weightlifting sports and nurturing a new generation of weightlifting athletes, the 2023 Region and State Weightlifting Sport Competition was held from the 12th to the 16th of September at WunnaTheikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw. Thirteen men's and eleven women's teams, totaling 172 weightlifting athletes, participated in the event.
