CCDAC Meeting: Government efforts in controlling drug abuse

The Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control held its meeting 1/2024 at Myanmar Police Force Headquarter in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

At the meeting, member of the State Administration Council, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-General Yar Pyae in his capacity as the chairman of the committee delivered an opening speech.

In his speech, the Union Minister highlighted the exerted efforts of the government in controlling drug abuse as a national duty.

In order to conduct drug abuse preventive measures effectively, special operations were conducted for 39 times from 2013 to 2023 and special operation 39/24 (2024) is also being conducted at present.

As the sector of controlling chemical substances plays pivotal role in controlling drug abuse, restricting the chemical substances manufacturing and distribution, raising awareness among chemical substances manufacturers about set law, by-laws, rule and regulations and punishments related to drug and chemical substances to prevent them from going astray.

While the government is accelerating drug abuse controlling tasks, the so-called PDF terrorist groups and insurgents are involved in illegal drug trading and production processes exploiting the unstable political situation. They are using the cash earned from drug trading in buying arms and ammunitions to commit terrorist activities, he added.

Then, the Vice Chairmen of the Committee Lt-General Tun Tun Naung and U Sit Aye and the Joint-Secretary presented reports on current preventive measures, further work implementations and the attendees provided necessary suggestions in conducting drug abuse controlling tasks. The meeting was concluded by the closing remarks of the Chairman of the Committee.
