An Icelandic town home to some 4,000 people near the capital Reykjavik could be heavily damaged by a volcano expected to erupt within hours or days, experts said on Saturday. Cars queue as far as the eye can see heading towards the town of Grindavik, southwestern Iceland, as residents head to collect their belongings with a nearby volcano expected to erupt.

The town was evacuated on Saturday after magma shifting under the Earth's crust caused hundreds of earthquakes, believed by experts to be a precursor to an eruption, with access to the area restricted.
