Under the waters of the Persian Gulf, groups of blue and black spotted snapper angelfish swim in and out of a hollowed out vehicle.

The car rests on the sea floor 30 feet deep and is making a home for sea life and attracting divers in Qatar. World Cup fans in Qatar hoping to see some of the Gulf's marine life are flocking to the artificial reefs just off the coast of the small, peninsular Arab nation.

The discarded structures provide habitats for fish and invertebrates.  Urbanization, fishing and climate change have profoundly disrupted marine life in the Persian Gulf. During a study conducted in 2021 of the whole Arabic peninsula marine environment experts found a decline in coral life of almost 40% due mainly to climate change.
