Cape Town hosts retrospective of iconic S.Africanartist Esther Mahlangu

A retrospective art exhibition featuringSouth Africa's most renowned artist Esther Mahlangu’s artworkhas been launched at the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town.

The exhibition follows the 88-year-old painter and mural artist's unusual trajectory from rural South Africa to global acclaim. With no formal art training, she earned an international reputation with works referencing her Ndebele heritage using skills passed down for generations. Mahlangu, the first African artist to be commissioned to paint a BMW Art Car in colorful shapes, painted vibrant geometric works based on traditional Ndebele designs.
