Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win attended and gave a remark at the opening ceremony of Capacity Building Training for Forecast Translation co-organized by the Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Ministry of Transport and Communications held at meeting hall of the Department of Disaster Management in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 21st February.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that Myanmar is prone to most natural disasters such as cyclones, strong wind, thunder, flood and water related natural disasters. It’s important to understand the meteorological information which can mitigate the disasters.
World Meteorological Organization informed that the accurate early warnings can reduce the 30% of damages and losses due to the disasters. Clear understanding the early warnings and carrying out necessary management effectively is the implementation of the Ministry’s policy and principle.
It’s one of facilitations for the sustainable development goal. It’s hoped for more coordination among the departments in the early warning measures regarding with natural disasters.
Then, the Director General of the department of Meteorology and Hydrology explained the work implementations of the department. The training will be given for two days and attended by 31 trainee officers from the Department of Disaster Management, it’s reported.
