Cambodia Prime Minister attends opening of Chinese-renovated naval base

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet attended the inauguration of the Ream Naval Base, which has undergone significant renovations funded by China. The base, located on the Gulf of Thailand, has been expanded to include a deep-draft pier capable of accommodating aircraft carriers.

The renovations have also facilitated joint training exercises between the Cambodian and Chinese navies. While Cambodia maintains that the renovations are for self-defense and regional peacekeeping, the involvement of Chinese military assets continues to fuel speculation about deeper strategic ties between the two nations.
