Calls to end gender violence fill Latin America

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Mexico City, Quito, Lima, and Santiago to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The demonstrators, mainly women, marched peacefully with similar chants across Latin America. They called for an end to gender-based violence, better women's rights and abortion rights. The UN designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Women in Latin America face some of the world's highest levels of gender-based violence.
