Buddha Pujaniya Festival: Magway Myathalun Pagoda Festival Resumes

The opening ceremony of 2587th Magway Myathalun Buddha Pujaniya festival was held at the pagoda platform on 24th October. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Buddha Pujaniya festival of Magway Myathlun Pagoda was suspended since 2020, and this year is the first time to resume back.

The festival will take place for 20 days from the 10th waxing moon of Thadingyut to the 14th waning. 

Secretary, Pagoda Treasury Board of Trustees, Myint Oo, said " Around 800 selling booths will be included this year. For the fun fair activities, the different music bands will perform for 10 days and Anyient pwe will be there for 2 days including children playground, Chinlone competitions and many more. People are also willing to take part and enjoy the festival. Magway Myathlun is prominent pagoda that everyone knows and I’m sure that this year will be full of visitors. "

While the festival will be held resoundingly starting from 24th October to 12th November, medical clinics and lodging houses are also arranged for the convenience of the visitors. 

Pyone Yi, Pilgrim, said " I came here from Htankone Village of Myaungmya Township as I know Magway Myathlun pagoda festival is going to be resumed this year.  This is the first time for me paying homage to this prominent pagoda."

Moh Moh Than, Pilgrim, said " I feel delighted for becoming this festival again since we could gain merits while visiting the pagoda. It will be joyful Thadingyut period as we could also explore the selling booths here. "

On the full moon day of Thadingyut, meals and offertories offering to the members of Sangha and as the tradition, 9,000 lights of oil lamps, flowers and incense sticks will be offered to the pagoda.
