British tourist dies in a fire on dive boat

A female British tourist was killed and 27 others were rescued on Monday, after the boat taking them to a scuba diving and snorkeling location about 6 nautical miles from the popular Tao Island in Surat Thani province, caught fire. 

The Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre is reported to have received a SOS message from the rescue center on Tao Island, stating that dive boat was on fire at sea. All except one passenger was rescued. The volunteers also helped to put out the fire, which is reported to have started in the engine room. 

No details were available at the time of this report as to the cause of the British national’s death.
