Briefing on Maravijaya Buddha Image: Information Team Leader explains the construction process

A press conference on the Maravijaya Buddha Image was held at the briefing hall of the Buddha Park in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

The Leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, explained that the Maravijaya Buddha Image was established with four objectives: to showcase the flourishing of Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar, to make Myanmar a focal point of Theravada Buddhism, to ensure the prosperity of the State, and to contribute to peace and stability in the world.

During the briefing, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun also provided details about the salient points of the Buddha Image and the related religious edifices. He mentioned that the Buddha Image would be the tallest of its kind in the world.

Additionally, he outlined the various processes involved in the construction, including the acceptance of the marble stone, engineering works, transportation, guidance from the Sayadaws, preparation for construction, carving process of the Buddha Image, assembly of its parts, construction of stone inscription cetis, conveying the Buddha Image to the throne, organization of religious ceremonies, construction of Sasana Beikmandawgyi, and long-term maintenance plans.

Furthermore, the Maj-Gen informed that the consecration ceremony of the Buddha Image, along with the Umbrella hoisting ceremony of the stone inscription cetis and the Libation ceremony, would be held on 1st August (the Full Moon day of the second Waso) on a grand scale.

The ceremony would be graced by over 70 Sanghas from 9 countries and broadcast live on State TV Channels. After the briefing, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun addressed queries raised by journalists, and the attendees were given a tour of the Maravijaya Buddha Park.
