BRICS Youth Energy Summit in South Africa

The two-day BRICS energy summit wrapped up on Friday with resolutions to be presented at the BRICS leaders' summit to be held later this month.

Youth delegates at a BRICS energy summit in South Africa's Johannesburg have been exploring ways in which the bloc can play a larger role in global energy supply and as well as shape the future of energy for Africa and the BRICS countries.

The BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa not only consume large amounts of energy, but also contain about 40 percent of the world's coal reserves, a quarter of natural gas reserves and eight percent of oil reserves. Deliberations focused on a myriad of key issues in the energy sector, including using energy as an enabler for the circular economy.
