Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva attended a Carnival parade and greeted participants at Rio. Lula and his wife watched the parade from one of the many VIP boxes lining the avenue.

The parade this year was themed around Lula’s life story — from humble beginnings in the northeast of Brazil to becoming the country’s most prominent left-wing leader — and featured colorful floats, dancers and music celebrating his journey. A giant representation of Lula also featured in the parade, attracting both applause and attention.
