The two leading candidates for Brazil's presidency for the 2022 elections campaigned on Saturday in their opponents' territories. President Jair Bolsonaro went to Pernambuco state, northeast of Brazil, including the city where his opponent, former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was born.

In the 2018 elections, Bolsonaro only had 33.5% of the votes in Pernambuco against the worker's party candidate Fernando Haddad, 66.5%. Bolsonaro held a motorcade with supporters in the city of Caruaru, and then flew to Garanhuns, Lula's hometown, to join an evangelical march event.

Down south, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva campaigned in Curitiba. Polls by Datafolha show Lula ahead of Bolsonaro 47% to 32%, giving the challenger a commanding lead in the run-up to the October 2 vote.
