





Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Wednesday attended an inauguration ceremony in Brasilia of two new female ministers in his government. Sonia Guajajara was tapped by Lula to serve as the country's Minister of Indigenous People.
She was elected to Congress in October. Guajajara is widely known as the leader of the main umbrella group for Brazil’s many Indigenous tribes and is a member of the Amazon Guajajara. In 2022, she was listed in Time magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people. During the event, Lula also signed a law for harsher penalties on racism during sporting, religious, artistic and cultural events.
