Border trade: Border trade between Myanmar and Thailand increased

Regarding with Myanmar’s import and export sector, trading process is operating on a daily basis with more than 400 export and import cargo trucks via Myawaddy border gate between Myanmar and Thailand.

The main export item is corn, including chili, onion, marine products and the imports included various foodstuffs, pharmaceutical products, agricultural equipments and machineries.

According to the responsible official from the Department of Border Trade, the daily trade value is around 5 million to 7 million US dollars, and the trade volume was slightly increased in May.

The main export worth around 2 million USD has been made daily and the exported items are corn, onion, wet and dried chilli, cabbage, marine products, CMP textiles.

Among the exports, the main one is corn, and more than 400,000 tons of corn were exported from February to April 2023. About 3 million worth of imports such as CMP textiles, various foodstuff, pharmaceutical related materials, construction materials, factory raw materials, machinery, bicycles, car spare parts are imported daily. Both exports and imports lead a rise during May.

Myawaddy border trade zone is being close to Yangon, which is the commercial hub of Myanmar and it also plays a vital role for trans-border commerce between Myanmar and Thailand.
